Notice a difference???
Yes, my right knee is swollen! And this is AFTER icing it!
Here is why and why it is a problem for me. Let's go back years... and even more years...I am a runner. I have always been one and I have made it a lifetime goal to run a MARATHON sometime! Am I crazy...probably! ;) This summer I decided I better get going with my goal and I started to train for a HALF marathon (13.1 miles). I have to start somewhere right? Well, I was working toward running in a race at the beginning of August, but my family got attacked by an awful summer flu and then we were out of town quite a bit. Long story short, too many things got in the way for that particular race. The next one that was available when I was available is NEXT WEEK! I have been training and I am ready! I feel AMAZING! Running 10 miles plus doesn't even get me winded, yes my legs hurt, but I am in the best shape of my life. Coming into this week I was excited that my race is finally almost here and then something happened....
Yesterday, I did a 5 mile run...which really is nothing to me at this point and I felt normal. No problems. I went on to do my daily routine and at the end of the night my knee felt a little strange. I was wearing pants and didn't noticed anything. Within an hour it really started to feel weird. I pulled up my pant leg and saw that it was completely swollen. It was bulging behind the knee, on the sides, top, and basically everywhere. I was shocked! Ten minutes later I could hardly walk, bend or straighten my knee all the way. The craziest part was that it didn't even hurt.
After putting my little man to sleep I was finally able to sit down. I stacked pillows high and iced that sucker! I thought for sure it would be fine by today....I was WRONG!!! What the heck! Is this really happening right now? Luckily, I have an appointment tomorrow with a Sports Doctor for another reason (that is definitely a story to tell, but I'll have to save it for another time) ;) Hopefully, he can give me some idea of what is going on with this knee and HOPEFULLY, I will get better in time to run a least a few more days (so that I am not out for a week and a half) and to run the race with no problems.
Wish my knee luck! ;)
